Hunkering Down - To MFS

At the store today Mom picked up a bag of chocolate covered nut thingies and the current Newsweek (yes, we got the Woman's Day, too, the September 12 issue). The cover story was about Type 2 Diabetes. Anyway, the magazine's been lying around on the floor. We'd both forgotten about it (we watched Princess Mononoke). Then, about an hour ago after the movie, Mom and I had a Come-to-Jesus moment regarding her eating. She's become much more stubborn of late (like insisting on purchasing the candy), and is not eating a lot of the good stuff I'm fixing for her so I know that although a medication adjustment would help, so would her cooperation. Anyway, after we had a tense discussion she sat down with a peanut butter sandwich on white bread and her bag of chocolates while I read the Newsweek article. It was very short and very scary. I handed the article to her. She's reading it now. Maybe it will help. I told her earlier that it is her diabetes, not mine. I can't put food in her mouth or keep it out of her mouth. Maybe the article will make an impression. I don't know. I hope so.
So it's going to be very busy for the next few weeks. I hope everything goes well. I think that when things settle down and we are in one place for awhile maybe I can get Mom into a somewhat better eating and living routine. Prescott, I think, will be a good place to do it because it's not insufferably hot and maybe I can get her out and walk her around the property a couple of times a day.
