How Old Looks - To LTF
No, I don't think you're full of shit as far as my mother is concerned. You are not the only person to have gotten that sense of her. I especially like your phrase "resigned (in the best sense of what that can mean)". I haven't heard anyone characterize her at all for some time except relatives who become hysterical when Mom forgets some little detail of their lives. I appreciate your graceful delineation. I needed to hear it. It reminded me why I'm here.
